Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën President Qiu Xiandong made an announcement recently at the joint venture's factory in Xianyang, Hubei, 21st Century Observer News reported today. Mr. Qiu stated that the joint venture's current strategy has shown success and that the it is currently formulating the next stage of its partnership.
Earlier this week, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën's factory in Xiangyang, Hubei announced its new T STT core powertrain technology. The new technology will play an important part in the joint venture's new E Power Strategy. The new 'T' and 'STT' engine technology will be equipped on Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën vehicles powered by 1.6 L CVVT, 1.8 L CVVT, 1.2 L THP, 1.6 L THP and 1.8 L THP engines.
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën's third Chinese automobile factory has officially begun operation, China Business News reported today. The factory, which is located in Hubei's capital of Wuhan, is designed to manufacture 300,000 automobiles annually and will bring its total production capacity in China to 750,000 vehicles. PSA Peugeot Citroën, which posted a deficit of 5.01 billion euros last year, and its partner will invest a total of 6.4 billion yuan in building and expanding the factory.

In 2012, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën began upgrading its powertrain assembly line. The Xianyang factory produces six different engine types taking advantage of STT Micro Hybrid technology. The factory played a crucial role in the JV's so-called 'e-power strategy'.
According to statistics, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën's sales last year exceeded 550,000 vehicles. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 25 percent. This year, a total of 400,000 Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën vehicles have been sold from January to July, equivalent to year-on-year growth of 27 percent. Lyu Haitao, vice president of the JV, also revealed that the new Citroën C5 and Dongfeng Peugeot 408 will be powered by T STT technology. Over the next two years, the JV's entire product line will be powered by T STT technology.
In order to fulfill its goal of selling 750,000 vehicles in 2015, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën has plans to release 11 new models over the next three years.
Contributed by hot sales of 3008, Dongfeng- Peugeot sales of 2013 has reached 270 thousand, which has increased 27% over the market performance of last year.
Ever since Dongfeng Group acquired a share in PSA this March, the two parties have been intensifying their cooperation in domestic engine manufacture. According to sources close to the matter, Dongfeng has sent six teams to negotiate with PSA on individual projects, including technology R&D and introduction of new technology. The projects will play a role in helping bringing micro hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure electric models to the country.
Despite strong sales, Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën is suffering from the problem of insufficient production capacity. While Mr. Lyu was unwilling to confirm whether or not limited production capacity has hindered the JV's sales performance, he did admit that its factories have been working at full potential to keep up with demand. According to reports, the JV manufactures 2,600 automobiles and 3,000 engines daily. Its third factory in Wuhan, Hubei reportedly manufactured 44 vehicles every hour last July. That specific factory's annual production capacity for this year is expected to exceed 220,000 vehicles.
Dongfeng Peugeot Citroën possesses two other automobile factories in China. The joint venture's first and third factories will focus on production of economy-class and mid-level models, while its second factory will manufacture premium models. The third factory has recently begin producing the new Citroën Elysée (pictured above). It will begin manufacturing the brand new Peugeot 301 midsize (pictured below) by the end of this year and the 2008 in 2013.

While increasing its sales, the JV will also aim to broaden the usage of its new T STT technology; the JV's total emissions next year are expected to be over 20 percent less when compared with 2012's emissions./

According to the plan at present, Dongfeng- Peugeot 2008 provides two engine versions of 1.6L and 1.2THP. The mode geared with 1.2THP has price advantage over 1.6L. It takes as another strategic product of Dongfeng- Peugeot.
The 1.2THP engine geared by Dongfeng- Peugeot 2008 is an important part of Dongfeng- Peugeot "E-Move Strategy". The strategy includes 1.6 CVVT, 1.8 CVVT, 1.2 THP, 1.6THP and 1.8THP 5 engines and the third generation 6AT gearbox. Among them, the third generation 6AT gearbox will be built in 2008 as well.
LV Haitao says it expects Dongfeng- Peugeot 2008 can develop a new segment for the company. Besides, it is another challenge goal for 10 thousand sales for single mode in year 2014 of Dongfeng- Peugeot.
However, it still has its risk even small size SUV segment is looked beautiful. Many years ago, Toyota and Suzuki have tested the segment, but both of them failed because the segment has not widely identified by customers.
Dongfeng- Peugeot is full of confident right now. According to its research, many potential customers are willing to buy SUV, but they have to give up because of purchase power is not enough.However, small size SUV just makes up for those customers. Low price provides another choose for those limited budget customer to fulfill their dreams.
Besides, the new segment is noticed by other automobile manufactures. Besides Dongfeng- Peugeot, Honda and Beijing Hyundai plan to introduce small size SUV into market this year as well./
